BAPTISM
BAPTISM
Who is to baptize with the Holy Ghost?
MT 3:
11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:12 Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.
13 Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.
MK 1:
8 I indeed have baptized you with water: but he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost.
9 And it came to pass in those days, that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized of John in Jordan.
LK 3:
16 John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire:
JN 1:
33 And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost.
34 And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God.
35 Again the next day after John stood, and two of his disciples;
36 And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God!
Fulfillment of the above to happen
Acts 1:
5 For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.
Peter Knew who Christ was.
Mt 16:
15 He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?
16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.
17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.
Peter was given this revelation from above not from MEN’s teaching.
18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
Mk 8:
29 And he saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Peter answereth and saith unto him, Thou art the Christ.
30 And he charged them that they should tell no man of him.
LK 9:
18 And it came to pass, as he was alone praying, his disciples were with him: and he asked them, saying, Whom say the people that I am?
19 They answering said, John the Baptist; but some say, Elias; and others say, that one of the old prophets is risen again.
20 He said unto them, But whom say ye that I am? Peter answering said, The Christ of God.
21 And he straitly charged them, and commanded them to tell no man that thing;
Peter had the keys to heaven.
MT 16:
19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
Peter was given the keys to the kingdom of heaven.
20 Then charged he his disciples that they should tell no man that he was Jesus the Christ.
Disciples (including Peter baptizing under supervision by Jesus)
JN 3:
26 And they came unto John, and said unto him, Rabbi, he that was with thee beyond Jordan, to whom thou barest witness, behold, the same baptizeth, and all men come to him.
27 John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven
JN 4:
1 When therefore the Lord knew how the Pharisees had heard that Jesus made and baptized more disciples than John,
2 (Though Jesus himself baptized not, but his disciples,)
In whose name was Repentance and remission of sins to be preached in? JESUS CHRIST
Lk24:
45 Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,
46 And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:
47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
48 And ye are witnesses of these things.
Jesus command to baptize
Mt 28:
19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
Note name is singular. Trinitarians for the most part cannot even say this correctly over anyone being baptized. They say ‘name of the Father, and the name of the Son, and the name of the Holy Ghost’. They add two additional names, because they believe in three persons, thus three Gods.
20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
Disciples including Peter were to teach all things commanded them.
You must believe to receive.
MK 16:
15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
Who is to feed Jesus’ sheep?
JN 21:
15 So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs.
16 He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep.
17 He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.
Now let’s see what happened on the day of Pentecost. The man with the keys is speaking. Not only that, but also instructed, taught, knew who Jesus was, and was asked to feed Jesus’ sheep.
Acts 2:
38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.
Did Peter disobey Jesus Christ? Or did the Holy Spirit, since Peter was infilled and anointed with the Holy Ghost? Scripture cannot fight scripture. Peter knowing who Jesus was, and had been baptizing under Jesus, and with the power of the Holy Ghost said exactly the truth, and the interpretation of Mt 28:19, the correct and single name.
No plural names, no distinct three parts but ONE NAME. There is only ONE LORD JESUS CHRIST, which God had made.
Acts2:
36 Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ
So baptizing in ‘Jesus only’ ,or’ Jesus name only’, or’ name of the Father, and the name of the son, and the name of the Holy Ghost’, or ‘name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost’ aren’t correct baptisms.
Now is this consistent from hereon out. Let’s follow the scripts.
When they heard they did the word.
AC 2:
41 Then they that gladly received his word were Baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.
The Samaritans are baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, and they did the word.
AC 8:
12 But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were Baptized, both men and women.
13 Then Simon himself believed also: and when he was baptized, he continued with Philip, and wondered, beholding the miracles and signs which were done.
14 Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John:
15 Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost:
16 (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.) note they are clearly baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus exactly according acts 2:38.
17 Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost.
Note: the man with the keys had to come to the Samaritans. God is vindicating Peter’s ministry.
Baptism is in the water, for those who doubt such.
AC 8:
36 And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?
37 And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.
38 And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him.
39 And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing.
AC 10:
47 Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?
Saul (who is Paul) that great apostle is Baptized, and appointed to the Gentiles.
AC 9:
15 But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel:
18 And immediately there fell from his eyes as it had been scales: and he received sight forthwith, and arose, and was Baptized.
The Gentiles are baptized, and receive the Holy Ghost
AC10:
43 To him give all the prophets’ witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.
44 While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.
45 And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.
46 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,
47 Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? Note: water is mentioned again.
48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.
Again note: the man with the keys presents the Jesus Christ, water baptism and the Holy Ghost to the Gentiles. Again God vindicates Peter’s ministry – he did not disobey Jesus on Acts 2:38.
The Holy Ghost is given to the Gentiles.
AC11:
16 Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost.
17 Forasmuch then as God gave them the like gift as he did unto us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ; what was I, that I could withstand God?
Paul is Baptizing, note his ministry really starts to the Gentiles after Peter used the keys.
AC 16:
Lydia
15 And when she was Baptized, and her household, she besought us, saying, If ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house, and abide there. And she constrained us.
The Keeper of the jail.
16:33 And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was Baptized, he and all his, straightway.
AC18:
The Corinthians.
8 And Crispus, the chief ruler of the synagogue, believed on the Lord with all his house; and many of the Corinthians hearing believed, and were Baptized.
Apollos and the Baptism of John (Baptist), at Ephesus.
AC18:
24 And a certain Jew named Apollos, born at Alexandria, an eloquent man, and mighty in the scriptures, came to Ephesus.
25 This man was instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in the spirit, he spake and taught diligently the things of the Lord, knowing only the baptism of John.
If ones baptism isn’t according to Act 2:38, what then? The Ephesians hear the correct word, and act on it, a sure sign they truly believed.
AC19:
1 And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples,
2 He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.
3 And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism.
4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. These Ephesians truly believe and adhere to the word.
5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied. Correct baptism leads to the right results.
7 And all the men were about twelve
Paul baptizes the same way as Peter, and Peter’s was vindicated by God and so was Paul’s. Paul was an apostle to the Gentiles and God did special miracles by him to vindicate him.
Now what else is in the New Testament concerning baptism that could further enlighten us on this topic?
Buries with him, by baptism, full immersion, is the implication.
RO 6:
3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
COL 2:
12 Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.
Paul is emphasizing a name here, and not his.
1CO 1:
13 Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul?
14 I thank God that I baptized none of you, but Crispus and Gaius;
15 Lest any should say that I had baptized in mine own name.
16 And I baptized also the household of Stephanas: besides, I know not whether I baptized any other.
Old Testament type.
1CO 10:
2 And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;
Holy Spirit baptism
1CO 12:
13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.
Baptism for the Dead? No!
1CO 15:
29 Else what shall they do which are baptized for the dead, if the dead rise not at all? why are they then baptized for the dead? Read what the previous scriptures say on here is what else Paul said.
12 Now if Christ be preached that he rose from the dead, how say some among you that there is no resurrection of the dead?
13 But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen:
14 And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain.
15 Yea, and we are found false witnesses of God; because we have testified of God that he raised up Christ: whom he raised not up, if so be that the dead rise not.
16 For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised:
Verse 29 If Christ did not raise then we are baptized for the dead, but he did raise so shall we. We then are baptized for the living, the resurrection.
GA 3:
27 For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
Only one baptism.
EPH 4:
5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism,
Water baptism does not save, but it is obedience. Christ is who saves us.
1CO 1:
17 For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.
18 For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.
HEB 6:
1 Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,
2 Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.
1PE 3:
20 Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.
21 The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:
Are you disobedient, refusing the ark God has for you? There is a strait (water – baptismal) way for you. You do not go through that door, than you do not enter the ark.
Baptism doesn’t save you. It is what Christ did for us.
LK13:
23 Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved? And he said unto them,
24 Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.
Conclusion:
There is truly only one water baptism. If you have the Holy Ghost or truly do believe the word, you will want to be baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, without much delay. Will it save you? No but it is obedience to the Word, it is at the beginning of Acts, and without it you are not in the New Testament, it is the gate. Peter was not disobedient to the Lord. For what is the name of the Son? JESUS! God made him both Lord and Christ. Christ – Messiah – anointed one– Holy Ghost. Lord - Father – Lord (Old Testament) - substitution for JVHU. If you didn’t know this before, you where excused, for many a great man never saw this, (i.e. John Wesley), but now is the time. To not to do it, is to be disobedient, as those where in the days of Noah. Is there a discrepancy because some places in Acts use Jesus Christ, and others the Lord Jesus? No! Consider this verse referring to the same baptisms.
AC 8:
12 But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were Baptized, both men and women.
16 (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.)
So for absolute respect and honour to our Lord and Saviour, one should be baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. This is what should be said over you, as you are about to be fully immersed in water. Any other baptism, using any other formula (‘Jesus name only’, ‘father, son, Holy Ghost’, nothing said, etc.) is not acceptable. ‘Here is water what doth hinder us’, if you want it, it is there to have, but only by God’s provided way. Do you have to subscribe, or believe a certain doctrine to be baptized? No! You must believe on Jesus Christ, repent and get baptized in his name – Lord Jesus Christ and you shall receive the Holy Ghost. He promised to lead and guide you to the truth. So let Him led you, you just be obedient.
