  • Does God Still Test His Children?

    These were the scriptures used on Sunday (Italics and bold) and some additional scriptures along the same line of thought.

    Heb 12:6  For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.
    Heb 12:7  If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?
    Heb 12:8  But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.

    Jas 5:10  Take, my brethren, the prophets, who have spoken in the name of the Lord, for an example of suffering affliction, and of patience.
    Jas 5:11  Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy.

    Job 23:10  But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.
    1Pe 1:7  That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold thatperisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honor and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:
    1Pe 4:12  Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you:
    1Pe 4:13  But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.
    Rev 3:18  I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eye salve, that thou mayest see.

    Job 13:15  Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him: but I will maintain mine own ways before him.
    Job 13:16  He also shall be my salvation: for a hypocrite shall not come before him.

    Jas 1:2  My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;
    Jas 1:3  Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.
    Jas 1:4  But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.
    Rom 5:3  And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;

    Psa 119:71  It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might learn thy statutes.

    1Co 11:32  But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.

    So clearly the answer is very simple from the scriptures:
    Every Son/Daughter of God will be corrected, chastised, and go through trials for their perfection.  God wants us to be patient, and patience comes from trials.  Great men/women throughout the ages are those who overcome the obstacles in life set before them.

    Thank you for these Scriptures. I was talking with someone recently who had asked me if I thought Christians were tested. There is a lot of unclear teaching about this topic in the church today. God's testing and discipline is for our good and so we might be partakers of His holiness, therefore it is to His glory!  And God's discipline is a certain proof we are His sons and daughters! Of course His discipline does not always seem joyful to us at the time but we can be certain it is yielding the peaceable fruit of righteousness in us, and even in the midst of it, we can rejoice with joy unspeakable through His Holy Spirit.
